The Estate owns land and different types of property in Cranborne and its surrounding area. The properties range from two-bedroomed flats to large farmhouses and are either used by staff or are let. Many tenants stay for a long time so the properties tend to come onto the market infrequently.
The Estate is an integral part of the local community and is aiming to keep Cranborne economically sustainable and to reduce the dormitory village effect by increasing the number of people being able to work and live in the village.
Three years ago the Estate took the first step towards achieving its aim with the opening of Cranborne Stores to provide a proper village shop. Other projects include the conversion of a former Estate workshop into offices in the centre of the village and two formerly redundant shops have been converted into office/retail space. In addition, work is due to commence on a substantial range of buildings on the outskirts of Cranborne to provide up to 4,700 square feet of commercial office space.
