Cranborne Fire Station Remains Open Following Consultation
Earlier this year, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) proposed the closure of eight rural fire stations, including Cranborne, as part of wider cost-saving measures.
Following a strong response from local communities, those proposals have now been withdrawn. More than 6,000 survey responses were submitted and over 1,200 people attended public meetings, demonstrating just how important local fire services are to residents across the area.
Cranborne Fire Station, along with the other locations identified earlier this year, is set to remain open for now, with the Fire Service moving its focus towards a longer-term modernisation programme, subject to securing a more sustainable funding model.
While this is positive news in the short term, it has been made clear that the future of these stations will depend on longer-term funding decisions, and proposals could return if these challenges are not resolved.
The Fire Authority will meet on 30th June to discuss the revised approach, with further funding discussions expected later in the year and a final outcome anticipated in early 2027.
